Scholarships
Purpose
The purpose of the GRAND CANYON STATE FENCING FOUNDATION (GCSFF) SCHOLARSHIP* is to provide qualified individuals under 25 years of age, who have demonstrated both the desire and talent to fence at a competitive level and who without the assistance of a GCSFF scholarship, might not otherwise be able to afford college fees or be able to contribute to the development of fencing in Arizona.
Application Procedures
1. All applications must be neatly printed or typed and contain original signatures, copies will not be accepted. Applicants are responsible for legibility and readability.
2. Answer all questions on the application. If additional room is needed, attach a separate page(s).
3. Enclose only those items requested in the application (do not attach biographies, resumes, or supplemental lists of activities unless requested). Any items added must be attached to the application.
4. The GRAND CANYON STATE FENCING FOUNDATION is not responsible for lost or misdirected applications. E-mail or faxed applications are not accepted. Mail your completed application to Attention;

6. Application and all supplemental materials submitted, becomes the property of GCSFF election committee and will not be returned to the applicant. Submission of an application is in no way a guarantee that a grant will be awarded.
7. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION SUBMISSION are; July 15, October 15, January 15, and April 15. Application must be post marked by theses dates to be considered in the application quarter unless the committee in urgent circumstances grants dispensation.
8. The GCSFF selection committee meets quarterly in the following months: August, November, February, and May. If applications are submitted which do not meet the requirements stated herein, the committee reserves the right not to meet that quarter.
9. The GCSFF selection will notify each applicant in writing of the committee’s decision. There is no appeal and the decision of the committee is final.
10. If GCSFF scholarship/grant funds are unavailable in a particular quarter, the committee will notify all applicants and the applications received in that quarter will be rolled over to the following quarter.
Application Requirements
Any application not meeting the requirements stated below will be rejected.
1. All applicants must become active members of the Arizona Division of the United States Fencing Association.
2. Applicants will be required to fence in an active program and will be required to sign an agreement detailing the minimum commitment as directed by the selection committee.
3. Applications must include a sign letter of recommendation from a competitive fencer who knows the applicant personally. The letter should attest to the applicant’s general character as well as their work ethics and fencing abilities.
4. If a scholarship is being requested based on economic hardship you must attach a copy of your (or legal Guardian’s) last year’s signed IRS form 1040, 1040A, OR 1040EZ to the application.
